Join us Tuesday, September 16 at 6:30 pm for this month's speaker meeting with Margaret Knickle: The Making of a Book: A Settler and an Elder. Margie will share her experience co-authoring My Ancestors Live Here with Elder Ellen Hunt, reflecting on Mi’kmaw and settler perspectives and the history of LaHave and Lunenburg County.
Admission is $10 and includes dessert.
Join us at Fort Point Museum on Sunday, August 31 from 2–4 pm for a community BBQ and ice cream social. Enjoy live music, good food, and a sweet way to say goodbye to summer.
Lunenburg, Queens, and Shelburne Counties are home to some especially unique forms of historic home construction, from grooved-post “coulisse” framing to plank and vertical log structures.
This talk draws on over a decade of research into Nova Scotia’s early houses, with a focus on the South Shore.
Join archaeologist Laura de Boer for a look at “standing building archaeology,” where framing, materials, and renovation histories reveal stories hidden behind the walls.

Join us at Fort Point on Monday, August 11 from 8:00 to 11:00 pm for a night of stargazing. Drop in anytime to watch the Perseid meteor shower and look through a telescope at features in the night sky.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, dress warmly, and bring binoculars if you have them.
Fort Sainte-Marie-de-Grâce was established in 1632 by Isaac de Razilly and served as the first capital of New France. Archaeologists are investigating the remains of this 17th-century French fort to better understand its role in the early history of the region.

We’re excited to welcome Sophia Hopkins, a Nova Scotian singer-songwriter whose rich vocals and honest lyrics reflect her deep connection to nature. She’ll be joined by Liam Britten on guitar, performing original songs and a familiar covers.

Historian Stephen Ernst will be presenting on the Mount Temple, the ship that ran aground off West Ironbound Island in 1907 and has a surprising local and international history. Seating is limited, so we recommend reserving a spot by emailing events@fortpointmuseum.org.
