again from 10.00am- 5.00pm

at The Fairview Inn in Bridgewater.They have offered to host a High Tea
fund raiser for us. Tickets are $20.00., being sold at

OUR NEXT SOCIETY MEETING:Tues. June 17- at Fort Point Museum6:30
pm - there will be a Potluck Supper, so please bring your plate,
silverware and a cup. 7:30pm - followed by a return visit of our
favourite storyteller Clare Dugas, with new Acadian family stories.

Hank Middleton was our first speaker for this season.He is our newest
addition to the board and a great entertainer as well. He provided through
words and music a colorful and informative presentation on Rum Running and
the fishery during the age of sail.Thank you, Hank.

July 15 - M. Brook Taylor, author of "A Camera on the Banks,"story of
fishery on the brink of change.
August 19 - Mary Smith will be doing a slide show on her and Earl's recent
trip to Argentina, highlighting Patagonia. This is Mary's third time
sharing her great photos with us.
Sept. 16 - Vernon Oickle, with interesting talks of folklore, superstition
and ghost stories.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Our 2008 season is in full swing. We had a very successful Lobster Supper
at the end of May. We have hired two university students, Jesse Harlow and
Merydie Ross. The museum is now open for the season. We expect to have the
Mi'kmaq Village open this week.
Our next event is the HIGH TEA fund raiser at Cranberries Restaurant at the
Fairview Inn in Bridgewater. Sunday June 15 from 2:30 to 4 PM.Tickets are
$20.00 each. We still have tickets for sale.
The grounds have been repaired in front of the museum and in the area
nearthe pond and the cemetery. We may do more grounds repairs in the fall
if we have money available.
We have updated our web site with the schedule of events for this

Look for Fort Point Museum logoed merchandise in the gift shop this summer.
Penny Ridley has designed a logo for us and Jesse Watson has put
thefinishing touches on it.
Our submission to replace the Roof of the older part of the museum has
beenapproved by the Dept of Transportation. It is expected the work will be
completed in the fall.
A crack in the corner of the wall in the kitchen has been repaired. It
willbe checked this week and if the repairs look sound, the walls will be
reconstructed. July will be a busy month. Our first event is a Seafood
Crepe Dinner which is sure to be a taste bud delight. Tickets ($25.00) are
available at themuseum for this July 12th treat.
A photographic exhibit will continue all month in the basement multipurpose
room. It will be an exciting display by Monika Wright and Anne
Launcelott.We will also have crafters displays in the main exhibit room.A
Home Tour 2008 scheduled for July 26th. It will feature homes from
Pleasantville, LaHave and Petite Riviere.Tour includes a tea at the Museum
for $20.00.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the Museum, the events and our pot
luck suppers this summer. It is because of you, our friends, members and
supporters that this organization has been able to effectively operate for
thirty-nine years. We should have a party for our 40th year in 2009.Take

MUSEUM GUIDES -VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
This year we have recieved a grant to fund only two students. This leaves
us short a person on the days our students are off. So far I have one
volunteer willing to fill in once a week. If anyone could possibily work
even one day all summer this would help cover our shortage. contact Johanna

OUR SUMMER STUDENTS
Jessie Harlow is from Bridgewater and graduated from Park View's
International Baccalaureate program. She will be entering her second year
in Physics and Chemistry at Dalhousie University this fall.
Jessie has been an active volunteer for several organizations; she is
artistic and has been involved in music and drama club at Park View.
Meryde Ross is a resident of LaHave, and a graduate of the IB Program at
Park View. She will be entering her second year of International Politics
at Penn State University in the US. She has received several academic and
community awards in recent years.
Please drop in and welcome both of these talented young people to the

THREE BENCHES FOR SALE
Profits to go to the Fort Point Garden.. .The benches are very heavy and
are stained ; suitable for outside use. Large oak logs for the benches
were fashioned from the wood left over from building the rustic gate at the
entrance to Fort Point. Logs and gate were hand split. The gate and
benches were built by Earl Smith .He has three for sale at $135.each

CRAFT DEMONSTRATIONS
This summer there will be a series of demonstrations of crafts at
Fort Point Museum.
On July 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be people demonstrating
needlework . On July 19 & 20 the quilters will be plying their art from 10
to 3 each day. The spinners will be there July 26 & 27 . We have just
found a very interesting and unique spinner among our artifacts which will
be on view that week-end (and maybe being used!)
And then on August 2 & 3 the rug hookers will be demonstrating and there
will be a piece of burlap for would-be hookers to try their hand August 9 &
10 the weavers' guild members will be in residence, all times from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m.
We have so many talented artists in our area . This will be a good
opportunity for visitors to the museum to be able to see what work is being
done in Lunenburg County. Doris Wentzell.

ACCESSION AND COLLECTION COMMITTEE
We are in the process to look over the Exhibits and change some display.
During the winter Earl Smith has built two Display Cabinets for the Mi'
kmaq artifacts. We also got several new artifacts for the museum:.Stan
Shaw has donated Acadien chairs and Norman Teal has donated an organ that
is now in the Museum..

Joseph Fitzpatrick, emeritus professor of art, University of
Kentucky,and resident of LaHave, has been designated as Featured Artist in
the Members' Gallery of the Lunenburg Art Gallery. His paintings will be
displayed at the Gallery from Sunday, July 13, through Friday, July 25.
Joe will also be teaching a painting workshop, sponsored by the
Kentucky Watercolor Society, In Hubbards, based at Dauphinee Inn, September
