THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
This is an exciting time of the year for us! Most of our summer neighbours are returning and the Museum is open. There have been many significant changes to the building since we closed last year. Internally, the building is complete, except for a few items, such as the floor on the look off level, the water heaters, the bathroom floor in the basement and hooking up the water to the sinks in the new kitchen area. The weather cooperated long enough to install both the geothermal system and the new septic system. Thus, we have 2 of the 3 new washrooms operational and have heat for the damp days and cooling for the hot days! There is a new fresh coat of paint in the new and old building, a new kitchen area in the basement, with counter space, sinks and cupboards.
The inside committee has been busy sorting artifacts and arranging displays in both buildings. Everyone will be very surprised and pleased at how nice everything looks. However, we still have much work to complete externally, which couldn't commence until the trenching and septic system were completed. Once the grounds dry up sufficiently, we complete the landscaping and place the outside convertible seating/picnic benches around the site. We hope to finish the symbolic Mi'kmaq village and Fort over the next month and will have everything completed by the end of August.
Our lobster supper was a resounding success and a special thanks to Donna and the members of her events committee, as well as the many volunteers who worked so hard to ensure everything went smoothly and everyone had fun. George Himmelman manned the cooking pot. Eric Rafuse, Dick Joyce, Bob Fulleman and Bill Romkey made sure George cooked them to perfection, while they cracked and prepared them to be eaten. Our members were super efficient at putting the dinners together, serving, cleaning, and making sure everyone was happy. Our bartenders, Chas and Erin, (Phil) were doing a terrific job, while Mary was busy selling tickets on Dick's shaker boxes. This is one of the best lobster suppers you can find anywhere. The value and quality service our members and volunteers give is a testament to each and everyone of them. Additionally, each volunteer pays the same amount for our tickets, as everyone else.
Plans for the Sept. 8th celebrations are well underway. Jim Sewell is chairing the committee for our September 8th event, while Mary Fulleman and Verne Lunan are chairing the Renaissance and Anniversary subcommittees, respectively. Ellen Hunt has the Acadian/ Mi'kmaq Festival and the Mi'kmaq Reunion scheduled for Aug. 18 - 20 at Fort Point well in hand.
Everyone should make time to drop in to visit and enjoy the new museum. The summer staff will be pleased to show you around and answer any of your questions. You'll also notice Mary Meagher has the gift shop looking very spiffy and remember, all members receive a 10% discount, in addition to purchasing items tax free, effectively, a 24% saving. Have a wonderful summer!

A special thank you to Bob Fulleman who completed the platform, for the circa 1900 home display, in the main exhibit hall.
Discussions on a suitable exterior finish of the museum agreed on a white building with red trims.
SUMMER STAFF We have now hired four students as guides for the summer

375th ANNIVERSARY AND GRAND OPENING
Put a note on your calendar to go to Fort Point on Sept 8, 2007.
We are having a double celebration!
The date is important - it marks the 375th anniversary of the arrival of Isaac de Razilly in 1632 and Fort Ste-Marie-de Grace became the capital of New France.
We will also be having a formal Grand Opening ceremony with invited dignitaries. Both events will have music, food and other entertainments.
See the next edition of Outlook for details, or call. Jim Sewell, 375 Team Leader at 688-1739.

FIVE INTERPRETIVE PANELS
are finally completed and will be manufactured in time for installation in the July/August time frame. Thanks to everyone for numerous content suggestions and comments! Jim Sewell

GIFT SHOP
Connie Dea and I attended the Maritime Gift Show to purchase inventory for our Gift Shop. We are happy to announce that we have lighthouse birdhouses built by Earl Smith and many other items plus a great selection of books. We are offering the book titled "Somewhere On The East Coast of Canada", a story about the Norwegians having come to Lunenburg to do their gunnery training when Germany invaded Norway. A great gift for the relatives that had members in Camp Norway. Shopping at the Museum Gift Shop is tax free and a major fundraiser for the Museum and everyones support is appreciated. Many thanks.
ORAL HISTORY The Oral History Project is making baby steps. I am happy to announce that I have completed an interview with Ruby Gray. Many thanks to Ruby for giving her time to this project. Jim Sewell has agreed to interview Brady and Romona Himmelman in the near future. Many thanks to Jim . Anyone in the area that would be able to help with this project, please call me Mary Meagher (688-2154).

The LOBSTER SUPPER on May 27th, was a big success. We received many compliments on the quality of the meal and the portion size. We served almost 140 meals. After expenses, we made a profit of nearly $1600.00. An event of this nature requires the support of many volunteers and dinner guests, to be successful. Thanks to all of those who volunteered and those who purchased dinner tickets. I would like to give a big bonus thank you to Carol Kenny who sold over 20 dinner tickets and Mary Meagher who sold 15.
Discussions about next year's Supper were held and were decided for last Sunday in May, at the Museum. Donna Malone

MARGE DEMONE passed away on April 26, 07
Our dear friend and founding member of our Society, Marge Demone, has passed away. We will miss her charm, her sense of fun and the support that she has given the Society over these many years.
Also always willing to help as a Hospital Volunteer, the Daisy and the LaHave Firemens Auxiliary, she was a valuable member of the
community. Respectfully, Donna Malone

THE INSIDE COMMITTEE has been working diligently to prepare the new museum space for the summer season. Still very much a 'work in progress' we will be working throughout the summer placing and labeling the artifacts and begin work creating new displays
For this summer, the DeRazilly Room appears very much as before; however we plan to complete a new DeRazilly family section this summer. The DesBrisay Museum has kindly loaned us their traveling exhibit on Champlain maps. This display now hangs in front of two areas under revision:
1) at the far end of the deRazilly Room and
2) in the new 18th century room.
A kitchen, bedroom and home crafts area is laid out on raised platforms in the large new exhibit room. This room will present the LaHave area in the 19th c., incl. exhibits on business, fishing, agriculture, and the ferry.
It will also be used for temporary exhibits and this year will display a number of items from our scrapbook collection. On the second floor, the passageway to the third floor features some of our smaller artifacts on "open" shelving. The model ships in the third floor Marine Room will share space with a lighthouse display. Much is still to be done and we can always use strong arms to help move things or hang the heavier displays. If you can help out or if you know of anyone who is a willing please contact Marie Sundin (527-0337) by Maggie Dorning for Marie Sundin
