375TH ANNIVERSARY AND GRAND OPENING
Make a note on your calendar to go to Fort Point Museum on September 8,
2007 - We are having a double celebration!
The September 8 date is important - it marks the 375th anniversary of
the arrival of Isaac de Razilly in 1632 and when Fort Ste-Marie-de Grace
became the capital of New France. To re-enact this important event, a
modern-day Razilly will arrive at Fort Point in a birch-bark canoe, from a
sailing boat moored off-shore.
The second event is the formal Grand Opening ceremony with invited guests
representing the several agencies and individuals who have assisted us in
the financing of the new building - "The Renaissance Project".
Both events will be accompanied by music, Acadian and Mi"kmaq food and
other entertainments.
See the next edition of Outlook for details, or call me: Jim Sewell,
375 Team Leader at 688-1739. As usual we need many volunteers to make
this a success - from museum guides to parking assistants, we need them
all!

INTERPRETIVE PANELS
The five interpretive panels are finally completed and will be
manufactured in time for installation in the July/August time frame.
Thanks to everyone for numerous content suggestions and comment

Excerpts from last month president's message
Plans for the Sept. 8th celebrations are well underway. Jim Sewell is
chairing the committee for our September 8th event, while Mary Fulleman and
Verne Lunan are chairing the Renaissance and Anniversary subcommittees,
respectively. Ellen Hunt has the Acadian/ Mi"kmaq Festival and the Mi"kmaq
Reunion scheduled for Aug. 18 - 20 at Fort Point well in hand.
Once the grounds dry up sufficiently, we complete the landscaping and
place the outside convertible seating/picnic benches around the site. We
hope to finish the symbolic Mi"kmaq village and Fort over the next month
and will have everything completed by the end of August.

NOISE "POLLUTION"
Being able to meet for our Potluck Supper and meeting last time in the
new Museum was a very pleasant event, but we do hope that the extreme
noise of chairs and tables moving on the floor of the new meeting room can
be eliminated. Many people found it very disturbing and everybody starting
to talk a little louder which of course added to the noise level.
The board is working hard to eliminate this project. Lets hope for the
best.

informative, interesting and lively speech on the Mount Temple. It is 100
years ago since it went aground on Ironbound.

MI'KMAQ/ACADIAN FESTIVAL
The weekend of August 17, 18 and 19 is sure to be a lively one at Fort
Point in LaHave. Ellen Hunt has organized "The Gathering" which is a
weekend long reunion for Mi'kmaq with roots in this area. Mi'kmaq from far
and wide have expressed an interest in attending this event. The 18th is
also the date of the Acadian Mi'kmaq Festival. A full day of entertainment
is planned. It promises to be an exciting weekend.
