President's Message

It was only yesterday, or so it seems, we were bidding our summer friends and neighbours good-bye. How is it possible that Christmas is almost upon us? Especially, since the weather over the past couple of months has been so nice. Although, we haven't experienced snow to date, I'm sure it will be arriving soon
Our major focus continues to be on the Renaissance project and over the coming weeks, we'll be announcing more details. This is a very exciting time for the Society! The completion of the Renaissance, the result of the dedication and vision of the members, will create a lasting legacy to be enjoyed by all visitors and residents of our community. The current timelines call for certain components of the project to be completed by the end of March, with the major aspects of the project to be completed by Oct 2006.

I would like to extend a welcome to the new board members elected at the AGM, Maggie Dorning, Allan Fleming, Carol Kenny and Donna Malone. I would also like to offer a special thank you to each of the retiring members, Lesley Anderson, Reid DeLong, Don Downe, Dick Joyce and Rob Sangster, for their valuable efforts helping move us forward. I've enjoyed working with the board over the past couple of years and look forward to continuing our journey with the new board members. Lesley will continue with her committee work and Dick, who set up and organized our financial records and does a fabulous job preparing our statements, will continue keeping our financial records in order.
The strength of any organization is people! Over the years our Society has been blessed with many dedicated and hard working members. Each member has their own special talents and comfort level for the amount of time they want to contribute. Some have more time than others and want to be more involved, while others want to be less involved. However, each of YOU is a valuable member of the society and we welcome any level of involvement you are prepared to offer. We have various committees which you can be part of to share your ideas. If committee participation is not your thing, we are always looking for people to assist with individual events. We also need people for the phone tree or to bake sweets for events. We offer members many opportunities to be as involved as one prefers. Being part of the Society can be a fun learning experience and very rewarding. If you would like to become involved, would like to help in some way or have an idea for an event, activity, or program, please call Johanna or myself.

On Sunday, around 25 members showed up for the closing of the site for the winter. Hamburgers and hot dogs were cooked on the wonderful barbecue donated by Jim and Shawn Seaboyer. Earl Smith prepared an old fashioned ginger cookie recipe, which Martha Bryson cooked in the Acadian Oven and served for everyone to enjoy. Both Earl and Martha are developing a real expertise for cooking in the Acadian Oven and do an excellent job. The special events committee is active putting a schedule together for the upcoming season and will have one published early in the new year. It includes another lobster dinner, as well as many other interesting functions and events. The Christmas Pot Luck meeting will be held on December 13th, the second Tuesday, instead of the third. We will be having a raffle, as well as a fun auction of Christmas Baked Goods! This will be the last pot luck meeting until March, so hopefully, we'll see everyone there. Invite and bring a friend or neighbour. Donna and I wish everyone a wonderful, safe and happy Christmas season! May your 2006 be blessed with health, happiness and be the best yearof your life!
Gary Malone

FALL CLEAN-UP AND BBQ
On a sunny and pleasant Sunday afternoon, on Nov20th 24 members gathered at the Museum for a fall cleanup. Things were put away, mulched, moved, covered and generally tidied up for the winter. The workers also enjoyed a great BBQ of Oktoberfest sausages and Hamburgers, leftovers from the Acadian Festival in August. The BBQ set had been donated by Jim Seaboyer and Gary again proved what a great Hamburger and Sausage fryer he is. We were busy but it was a great time.
See you in the spring. Carol Kenny
